This I Believe is what I see

The internet and technology is making my generation brain dead, which is so ironic because the internet is one of the most powerful tools out there! You can find out anything in seconds but things like “social media” are shaping us or only showing out population the true expressions of our very odd and disruptive society. Every day I see people expressing their infinite consciousness in a way that is becoming so meaningless, unoriginal, and degrading. The internet technology is making out youth insensible, lazy, and ill! I believe our future generations will face even bigger problems because these are only the tip of the iceberg.

If I had to describe my generation in a few words I’d say; insensitive, lazy and sick would fit perfectly. People hardly socialize in person now; verbal face to face conversations have been replaced by meaningless text. People have become so inconsiderate of others feelings just by simple fact that the person isn’t there making it easy for them to say things they wouldn’t normally say. They lack that sense of reality. Not only that but its making us lazy! All we like to do is watch shows, play games, be on social media, surfing the net. I mean no need to go outside is probably what crosses your mind when you can have much more fun inside. The internet and smart phones, tablets, and TV’s make it even easier for us to access the internet and we can shop, buy food, get information, use it as a reminder, communicate and speak out thoughts; and all this while  you’re sitting down, and people have figured it out! More than one third of adults are obese in the United States. Obesity statistics have risen over the last years followed by ADHD statistics and depression statistics. People lack creativity they all copy each other and jump on  the band wagon, they follow all stupid trends and don’t try to think about something because if you surf the net you’ll find something that will tell you what to do about it! Our consciousness of how we see things is immediately changed by what somebody else thought of it and it’s not always bad but it’s important to be you without anyone else’s help.

In the internet there is a term called “attention whoring” and just like the term “selfie” it’s known among a lot of teenagers. What this is, is a person who constantly gets attention, compliments, and admiration of all the bandwagon apes. YET they feel so lonely I mean, isn’t 1,500 “friends” on facebook not enough? All this person will post about will be about how ugly they are yet they put about 5 selfies a day, they’ll bash on the “creeps” that message them, yet they asked for it. Why is this? Maybe because once they step back from the screen they find themselves standing alone. Is as if you’re living a fake world when you step in front of your screen. People tend to forget about everyone else’s feelings, I mean you’re alone and feel “crappy” and are having all the lame teenager problems (that aren’t even problems) so we become crude. Today I ordered a pizza from dominoes, we got to customize it online, we didn’t even have to call. All we had to do was order it online and just like that you can practically buy anything in the internet! If you want to go shopping without having to drive there and be waiting around in lines. I mean need a reason to stay inside? Plain and simple the internet. Nobody goes outside anymore, we even started addressing the problem with TV commercials of being active and going outside, I mean isn’t that ironic? People don’t even bother to figure things out because the internet will give you the answer, we’re lazy yet used to quick results. When we don’t get fast results we lose interest. People would much rather sit infront of a computer rather than work out because unlike the results of walking we see results of sitting there by getting answers, replies, work and we chose that over weeks of work for one result always. The disease control and prevention have shown us the rising rate of depression (which has been rising) experts agree that rates of depression in the US and worldwide are increasing studies show that rates of depression for Americans have risen dramatically in the past 50 years. The percentage of depressed children continues to increase from 2.8% in 2003 to 11.0% in 2011. Just like the rise in obesity and depression we find statistics of other things like this rising each year. Our attention spans have been shortening over the years, this is no surprise and they will keep shortening due to the increase of external stimulation. Every doctor wants to put kids on Adderall, and depression pills. Maybe that kid doesn’t have ADHD or, maybe he isn’t depressed maybe he just lacks attention and enough physical activity to burn all the sugar it ingests daily. Now I’m not saying that this should all be blamed on the internet and technology but I do believe that it does have something to do with it.

I know that technology has made communication so easy, we have Skype, Facebook, text messaging, snap chat, anything you can think of, and this is all so great! However people seem to forget that it’s okay to interact close by someone so they can know the words you utter are yours and real with feelings not just a meaningless text. Actions speak louder than words. The internet is so reliable that you get things done fast, you do things quickly without much effort. What people need to realize is that there is limits to this. Everything in excess is bad, we need to get out butts up and move around for a bit.

We’re getting used to meaningless messages, quick results, we’re lacking in originality, as if we’re turning into robot clones, and how this might affect our future I cannot tell; but all I know if that this phenomenon is becoming normality and evolution is shaping our consciousness into something approximately similar. Brake free, not forever but only to not become dependent.
